Dear CSNET Liaisons,
We're pleased to send out the latest list of CSNET member sites.
PhoneNet sites are included if already online or if the site has
been sent the software. A number of additional sites are in the
process of applying for membership or dealing with licenses;
watch this space for news! The level of interest and activity is
very exciting.
For those with access to the NameServer, this list will also be
available under the name "sites"; just type "whois sites".
A word about names: PhoneNet sites are not necessarily listed
under their official names, but sometimes under an alias (all
names shown are legal and will work). The CIC has been charted
with rationalizing site names within some guidelines, still
evolving, including clarity, simplicity, uniqueness. The general
notion is that a reference to a name reaches the computer science
group at that institution. More will be said about this later,
but feel free to send us any comments.
ARPANET sites may have several hosts, and site names are not
usually valid addresses. The CIC can provide further information
if desired.
As always, please let us hear your questions, comments, suggestions
and the like at <cic@csnet-sh> or our hotline number (617)497-2777.
Regards,
Nancy Mimno

Dear CSNET Liaisons,
We, the CSNET Coordination and Information Center (CIC), would
like to pause long enough to formally announce our presence here
at Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. in Cambridge, MA. We are under
contract with the National Science Foundation to provide the
central focus for the CSNET for questions, problems, information,
and the like. Some of you have already had contact with one or
more of us, and we hope to be of service in the future. The
members of our staff you will most often deal with include:
Dr. Richard Edmiston - Director of the CIC
Nancy Mimno - CIC Liaison
Dan Long - CIC staff and technical support
Beth Johnson - CIC staff assistant and administrative support
Dick Edmiston is also a member of the CSNET management committee.
We are available online at the address cic@csnet-sh; this mailbox
is checked frequently and reaches all of us. Our hotline phone
number is (617)497-2777. When you call, the hotline message desk
will either find one of us, or will take a message and we will
get right back to you. On nights and weekends the hotline number
is always available for messages and can reach one of us in
emergencies.
We will be sending you CSNET status reports and other information
occasionally. Let us hear from you, too !

Nancy Mimno

Dear CSNET Liaisons,
Below is an updated list of CSNET members. We now have 69 PhoneNet sites
online, with another 18 in the final stages of joining. In addition, we have
19 ARPANET members. With the addition of sites in Canada, and the
implementation of gateways to BITNET and to several European networks, CSNET's
range is expanding dramatically.
PhoneNet sites on this list are arranged according to their relay assignments;
official host names are used for these sites. ARPANET sites are grouped
separately; we are currently developing a list of hosts at these sites which
can act as primary recipients and, wherever possible, mail forwarders. We will
distribute this shortly.
You may want to post this list at your site so that users can refer to it
easily.
If you experience problems with mail delivery, please feel free to contact the
CIC. We're glad to help.
regards,
Laura Breeden
